What Are the Basics of Tire Care?

Driving in your new Land Rover Discovery or Discovery Sport is an occasion that you treasure, so how can you keep the good times rolling? The right tires are a major factor in your safety and the proper operation of your vehicle, and whether you own or lease, knowing when to call our tire experts is important. How can you know if something is wrong with your tires? Here are a few basic tips to be on the lookout for, and should you ever spot an issue, contact us right away.

  • How do I know my Land Rover Range Rover needs new tires? There are several ways, but the basics to watch out for include: cracking or bulging of the tire, uneven tread wear, you see something poking from the tire, or if the tread is separating from the tire body.
  • I've heard about the penny test -- what is that and how do I do it? The penny test is an old way to measure tread depth by placing Abe into the tread head first. If the tread does not reach his head, you have an issue.
  • When should I rotate my tires? Tires should be rotated, as a general rule, at every oil change. This may vary depending on your individualized driving needs.
  • I think my tires are low on air. What do I do? If you suspect your tires are low on air, you can use a tire pressure gauge to check. Located on the inside of the driver's side door is a placard with the amount of air your tires need in them. Do not over or under inflate your tires for safety reasons.
  • What are the letters and numbers on the side of my tire? These tell our team more about your tire needs than you might think. The numbers and letters inform us on the type of vehicle they go on, what kind of tire they are, their width, aspect ratio, and more.

Making an appointment with our team is easy and can be done online or in person. While you're here, we can help you get into the right set of tires for your Land Rover Range Rover Sport or Range Rover Velar, and make the most out of your driving experience. We carry a large stock on site to ensure you can replace worn tires and drive home happy. Contact us to learn more.
